MLB: Yankees' Jeter not interested in becoming a free agent

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Derek Jeter is not speculating about his future with the New York Yankees.

The 10-time All-Star reported to spring training today and said he has no problem with a team policy of not negotiating new contracts until a player's previous deal expires.

Jeter is entering the final season of a $189 million, 10-year deal. He said he has no desire to become a free agent or play for another team, adding he will not discuss the status of his situation again until after the season.

The 35-year-old shortstop wants to continue playing as long as he's having fun and helping the Yankees win. He said he has not given any thought to how much he'd like to be paid in his next contract.
