Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Art Fair April 7-10 in Hilo

Advertiser Staff

Plans are being finalized for the 2010 Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair April 7-10 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, held in conjunction with the Merrie Monarch Festival April 4-10.

Unlike many craft sales, vendors are allowed to participate in this annual event by invitation only and they are carefully evaluated. Everything must be made in Hawai'i by the artist; imported products are not allowed. Consideration is given to cultural significance, uniqueness, quality and craftsmanship.
Fair hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The auditorium is just a few steps away from the Edith Kanakaçole Stadium where the Merrie Monarch Festival hula competition takes place April 8, 9 and 10.
Information: Fair director Nelson Makua, 808-966-4647 or e-mail mmcraftfair@hawaiiantel.net.
