UH endowment fund honors Corky Trinidad

Associated Press

The University of Hawaii Foundation says an endowment fund has been established in honor of the late Honolulu Star-Bulletin cartoonist Corky Trinidad.

The fund was started yesterday with more than $42,000 raised by family, friends, the Star-Bulletin, the Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Filipino Community Center and others.
The fund will help UH-Manoa students and researchers in journalism, international studies, human rights, Philippine studies and other fields.
Trinidad was born in Manila and was the first Asian editorial cartoonist to be syndicated in the United States.
He specialized in caricaturing and skewering politicians, most notably former Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos.
Trinidad died last year at age 69.
