Young man in critical condition after moped accident on Kalihi Street

Advertiser Staff

A young man was in critical condition after a Saturday night moped accident on Kalihi Street, EMS Dept. spokesman Bryan Cheplic said today.

According to the EMS report:

At approximately 11:02 p.m. Saturday, EMS received a report of a possible moped accident near 2660 Kalihi Street.

The EMS crew found a young man who appeared to have been involved in a “motor vehicle collision involving a moped.”

The injured man was treated and taken to a trauma center in serious condition, Cheplic said. His condition later worsened to critical at the hospital. The man appeared to be in his 20's, Cheplic said.

Residents of the block said this morning they did not see another vehicle and thought the young man, who was not wearing a helmet or a shirt and only had slippers on his feet, lost control of the moped and crashed. They said he appeared to have a serious head injury.

Police said they were not called to the scene.
