Letarte, the swimwear line created by the Letarte sisters, Michele Letarte Roff and Lisa Letarte Cabrinha of Pā'ia, Maui, is turning 10 years old. More reason to celebrate: Letarte had 12 bikinis in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, a record for the company. See the line at 24 Baldwin Ave., Pā'ia. Information: shop@letarteswimwear.com.

SHANGHAI TANG AT C.S. WO

Shanghai Tang and C.S. Wo are partnering with a show of the spring/summer collection, "Love Restraint." About a dozen men's and women's outfits will be shown on mannequins throughout the store at 702 South Beretania St. Look for lots of soft jade green, the color of the season for Shanghai Tang. On view during store hours, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Information: 543-5388.

'NEW YEAR, NEW STYLE'

Hawai'i Red magazine and the Hawai'i Fashion Incubator are joining forces to help raise funds for the University of Hawai'i-Mānoa Apparel Design and Merchandising Department. The money will help buy much-needed equipment, staffing and other necessities for the fashion program, which has always provided a valuable resource for Honolulu's growing fashion community.

The event, called "New Year, New Style," will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Cupola Theatre, Honolulu Design Center.

The evening will include style makeovers by the student fashion club, the Innovators of Fashion, a styling contest, mini-fashion show by the senior designers, silent auction and a panel addressing careers in fashion. Sponsor's tables of four: $400; tables of eight: $950. Individual tickets: $10 and $20. Information: www.hawaiiredmagazine.com.

HIGH-DEF MAKEUP NOT JUST FOR CELEBRITIES

You don't have to be on TV or in movies to reap the benefits of high-definition makeup. It's great for photographs and every day, especially for mature skin.
The dif with high-def is that it contains light reflectors that can make skin look younger and more radiant. It also consists of extremely refined particles so it is super-sheer, yet pigment-rich.
Julie Hewett does a great job with high-def makeup, and we especially love her Bud of Rose blush. (This just in: Hewett, one of Hollywood's most in-demand makeup artists, will be heading up the makeup team on location here for "The Descendants," the George Clooney movie adapted from Kaui Hart Hemmings' Honolulu-based novel.) It's a perfect soft pink shade for spring. Apply it sparingly, using a small, soft blush brush, and only on balls of cheeks.
Makeup artist Liz Dahl goes over it with a powder puff to pick up a little excess. We found it at Etch Salon, 1020 Ke'eaumoku St. ($25).
Other high-def makeup lines include Cargo, Smashbox, Makeup Forever, Christian Dior and 29 Cosmetics.
