Local manual wins hospitality award

A training manual produced by the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association has received an award from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association.

The Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association has received a national marketing award for its Ola Hawai'i manual used in cultural leadership training and Hawaiian-values-based workforce training.

The manual was selected out of 1,100 entries from around the world to receive the Gold Adrian Award from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International.

The HSMAI is an international organization of sales and marketing professionals representing all segments of the hospitality, travel and tourism industry. HSMAI describes the Adrian Awards as a competition that "honors creative brilliance and best practices in hospitality, travel and tourism marketing."

HOKU TO RESUME WORK ON IDAHO PLANT

Hoku Scientific Inc. said it expects to receive a $30 million loan installment from Tianwei New Energy Holdings Co. this month, allowing it to resume certain construction work on a polysilicon manufacturing plant.

Honolulu-based Hoku said it had entered a change order with Stone & Webster Inc. allowing immediate resumption of work on certain critical path items at the polysilicon plant in Idaho. Tianwei, based in Chengdu, China, owns a 60 percent stake in Hoku.

FEWER JANUARY FLIERS FOR GO! MOKULELE

The airline go! Mokulele said its planes were 61.3 percent full in January, down 3.3. percentage points from the same month a year earlier.

The interisland carrier flew 50,325 passengers during the month, down 13.6 percent from January 2009.

Revenue passenger miles totaled 6,888 in January, down 19.7 percent from January 2009, go! Mokulele reported.

Mokulele, controlled by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings, and go!, owned by Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group, merged operations last fall in an effort to stem mounting losses at both carriers.
