A man who died after he was pulled from waters off the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tuesday afternoon has been identified by the city Department of the Medical Examiner as Kuang Zheng Pu, 61, of Zhejiang province, China.

Pu was swimming with a group of people in the surf spot known as "Kaisers" when he got into distress about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. Beachgoers brought him ashore and began CPR, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.

Ambulance workers treated Pu and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
