Anderson services on Saturday in Maryland

Advertiser Staff

Michael Joseph Anderson, the Wai'anae High School teacher and Wai'anae Coast Neighborhood Board member who died in a hiking accident, will be buried Saturday following his 10 a.m. service at St. Mary's Church in Newport, Md.

He died Jan. 29 after he slipped and fell 200 feet while hiking in the Wai'anae Mountain cliffs near the Makaha Valley Towers condominiums.

Hundreds of people attended a memorial service for Anderson last week at Wai'anae High School.

Anderson, 25, is survived by his parents, Nils and Carolyn Anderson, brothers, David Anderson and Nils James Anderson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, Anderson's family requests that contributions be made to the "Michael J. Anderson Memorial Fund," care of Bank of Hawaii, P.O. Box 2900, Honolulu, HI 96846.

Scholarships will be established in his name at schools he attended or where he taught.
