Reigning Hawai'i Women's Match Play champion Allisen Corpuz, a Punahou sixth-grader, was one of 23 who qualified for this week's Hawai'i Pearl Open yesterday at Pearl Country Club.

A field of 112, between the ages of 11 and 59, played for a spot in the 32nd annual tournament, which tees off Friday. Jung Gi Ho, a 25-year-old pro from Seoul, earned medalist honors by shooting a 4-under-par 68.

Japan pro Takahiro Akaishi and Barry Schenk finished a shot back. Akaishi was encouraged to try and qualify by Toshinori Muto, also from Gunma, who is the highest-ranked JGTO player (No. 18) entered this week.

Corpuz shot 73 to share 17th. Nine golfers shot 75 to tie for the last spot, with amateur Grant Natori earning his way in by virtue of matching cards from the 18th hole.
