MPI boys capture ILH championship

Mid-Pacific became what is believed to be the first Division II boys soccer team to win the overall Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship yesterday.

The Owls got goals from Daigo Kameoke and Kennedy Spencer to beat Pac-Five, 2-1, to finish the regular season with a 9-2-1 record and 28 points.

Punahou, a Division I team, was 8-1-3 and 27 points.

Kapolei edged Kaiser, 2-1, in penalty kicks in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Division quarterfinals yesterday at Moanalua High School.

The match was tied 1-1 through two overtimes before the Hurricanes prevailed in penalty kicks 5-4.

Kapolei will host 'Aiea tonight at 7 in one semifinal. Mililani and Pearl City will play in the other semifinal at 5:15, also at Kapolei.

In yesterday's other quarterfinals, Mililani beat Kalāheo, 1-0; Pearl City beat Roosevelt, 2-1, and 'Aiea beat Moanalua, 1-0.

In OIA White semifinals at Waialua yesterday, McKinley beat Radford, 1-0, on Ryan Min's goal, and Kailua beat Waialua, 1-0, when it won the penalty-kicks phase 3-1.

McKinley will play Kailua for the White title tomorrow at 5:15 p.m. at Kapolei.
