NFL: Bills hire Gators defensive coordinator Edwards

By JOHN WAWROW
AP Sports Writer

BUFFALO, N.Y. — George Edwards has abruptly left the Florida Gators to become the Buffalo Bills new defensive coordinator.

Edwards’ hiring was announced by the Bills on Thursday, only 27 days after he had been hired to the same job under Gators coach Urban Meyer. University of Florida officials were not immediately available for comment regarding Edwards’ departure.
Edwards becomes the latest addition to a staff assembled by Bills coach Chan Gailey, who took over two weeks ago.
Gailey was the Dallas Cowboys head coach in 1998 when he hired Edwards as a linebackers coach. Edwards has 19 years of coaching experience, including the past 12 in the NFL.
He spent the past five years as a linebackers coach with the Dolphins.
