State initiating parking rules at Haleiwa Harbor

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is installing parking lot signs at Haleiwa Boat Harbor as an initial step to control illegal camping there.

The signs spell out who can park there and when. The parking will be closed at night to all but permit users, boat slip renters and boaters with trailers.
“We are going to be enforcing rules which apply to the harbor parking area,” said Deborah Ward, DLNR spokeswoman.
The DLNR held a public meeting on the issue last month and said it had received numerous complaints about dumping, camping and domestic violence at the harbor.
