Moloka'i celebrates community art exhibit

Advertiser Staff

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, Molokaians will gather at the Ho'olehua Airport for a blessing of its first community art exhibit, comprising the works of Catherine Buchanan and Paul Elia.

Buchanan's paintings of Moloka'i scenes were previously exhibited at the future site of the Damien Center and at the Kalele Bookstore on Moloka'i, garnering interest that prompted bookstore owner Teri Waros to suggest to tourism and airport officials that the works be displayed on an ongoing basis.
At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, those works, and Elia's wood and bone carvings will be blessed by Sacred Hearts Father Clyde Guerreiro, past of the Molokai Catholic community, with Anakala Pilipo Solataro of Halawa Valley handling Hawaiian protocol. Buchanan will unveil a new painting. Food and entertainment will follow.
Information: Teri Waros, 808-280-7729.
