No plans to close Prince Golf Course on Kauai

Garden Island

The special kama'aina rate of $50, discounted from its usual kama'aina rate of $70 for play during prime hours, and $40 for tee times after 3 p.m. daily will continue, states a release from Candy Aluli Public Relations, representing the Prince Golf Course.

Shaylyn Kimura, the Prince GC's business development and marketing manager, said contrary to rumors circulating in the community, there are no course renovations scheduled for 2010.

"The golf course, golf shop, and spa are open for business as usual," Kimura said. "With so many other Kaua'i courses undergoing renovations, we have been beset by rumors. The Prince is not closed, and we have no plans to close. Come out and play!"

During the recent 2010 Small Business Administration Awards ceremony presented by the Kaua'i Chamber of Commerce and American Savings Bank, more than 130 people attended the event at the Prince Clubhouse in Princeville.

"This is a perfect example of the kind of successful event the Prince Golf Course can host," said Kimura. "Many people don't initially think of a golf course as a place for special events, but the Prince is unique. We are fully equipped to offer both indoor and outdoor sites for banquets, meetings, weddings and other gatherings."

The 60,000-square foot Prince Clubhouse is home to the Prince Golf Course pro shop, the Princeville Health Club and Spa, and the Princeville Restaurant and Bar.

In 2008, Golf Digest recognized the Prince Clubhouse as one of the best in the nation on its "50 Best 19th Holes."

The special kama'aina golf discounts are geared toward taking care of local golfers as well as getting people familiarized with the offerings of the Prince Clubhouse.

"We want our community to know about this great resource for special events which is literally in their own backyard," Kimura said.

The Prince Golf Course has been consistently ranked by Golf Digest as Hawai'i's No. 1 golf course and is the only course in the state to be recognized on Golf Digest's 2009/2010 list of America's "Top 100 Greatest Courses."
