Fire displaces 13 people in Kuhio Homes neighborhood

Advertiser Staff

A fire started by a child playing with a lighter at Kuhio Homes on North School Street left 13 people displaced today who will be taken care of by the American Red Cross.

The 10:53 a.m. fire today in the two-story walk up townhome caused $4,000 worth of damage to the structure and about $1,000 to the contents, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Robert Main.

The fire was confined to a single bedroom, Main said. No one was injured. The Red Cross is working to meet the needs of the five adults and eight children to ensure they have shelter, food and clothing.
