GOP candidate files for Hawaii lieutenant governor

Associated Press

HONOLULU — Adrienne King has filed papers to seek the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

King filed her candidacy paperwork on Tuesday.

A family law attorney, King has held various low-level party posts and unsuccessfully sought a state House seat three times.

She is the lone GOP candidate to file for the post so far, though Dana Wedemeyer-Steele of Kaneohe also has indicated an interest.

On the Democratic side, only state Rep. Lyla Berg of Hahaione Valley had filed her candidacy papers as of last week.

State Sens. Gary Hooser of Kauai and Norman Sakamoto of Salt Lake, Rep. Jon Riki Karamatsu of Waipahu and former state Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz also have indicated an interest in running for the nomination.
