‘Dust devil’ injures 14 students at Makaha Elementary School

Advertiser Staff

More than a dozen fourth-grade students at Makaha Elementary School were slightly injured this morning when a "dust devil" touched down and lifted them off the ground before dropping them back down.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were sent to the school on Ala Naauao Place about 10:50 a.m.

Paramedics treated 10 of the students before releasing them to their parents. Some of the students opted to go back to class, Cheplic said.
