Hawai'i's Carissa Moore, fresh off her first victory on the women's pro surfing tour, easily won her first round heat today in the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic at Curl Curl Beach, North Sydney Australia.

Moore, a 17-year-old Punahou student, amassed a two-wave total of 17.50 (out of a possible 20) against Australia's Chelsea Hedges (12.44), and Amee Donohoe (8.93) in the first heat of the day in the Association of Professional Surfers event.

"It was a tough one coming up against Chelsea and Amee," Moore said. "I was really excited. There were some nice ones coming in but it was a little nerve-racking because I've drawn the first heat a few times this year. It's ok, it was fun."

On Friday, Moore won the TSB Bank Women's Surf Festival in New Zealand.

Moore, ranked No. 6 in the world, will face world No. 9 Rebecca Woods in the next round.
