Body of man, 50, found in park

A man in his 50s was found dead Friday night from a possible motorcycle accident on Highway 11 in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, officials said.

The man is believed to have been headed toward Hilo and was wearing a helmet. He was found 50 feet from his motorcycle without any signs of life, Big Island firefighters said.

He was found at the 32-mile marker in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. No other details were available.

ROBOTICS TEAMS REACH QUARTERFINALS

Robotics teams from McKinley and Waialua high schools advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective divisions at the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Atlanta this weekend.

Some 344 teams from around the world took part in the competition. The teams were divided into four groups of 86 teams.

McKinley finished 13th in the Curie Division. Waialua ranked No. 42 in the Archimedes Division.

Other Hawai'i teams included Sacred Hearts Academy (No. 41) and Campbell (No. 77) in the Galileo Division; Kaua'iBots (No. 42) and Ka'ū (No. 63) in the Newton Division; and Kalani (No. 84) in the Archimedes Division.

Punabots Blue finished seventh out of more than 80 teams in the robot competition of the FIRST LEGO League games.

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR UTAH VISITOR

Kaua'i firefighters were searching late yesterday for a 26-year-old man from Utah who has been missing in Wailua Valley since Thursday, firefighters said.

The search resumed yesterday at 8 a.m. and was scheduled to last until dusk, Kaua'i County officials said. A canine team was being used in the search.
