NHL: Sabres LW Vanek hurts left foot against Bruins

Associated Press

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Sabres leading scorer Thomas Vanek will miss the remainder of Game 2 of Buffalo's first-round playoff series against Boston after hurting his left foot in the first period.

The Sabres announced Saturday that Vanek has a lower body injury and would not return.

Vanek was injured after he was hooked from behind by Boston's Johnny Boychuk during a partial breakaway with under 7 minutes left in the opening period. After getting off a backhand shot, Vanek and Boychuk both fell and slid into the end boards.

Vanek had difficulty putting weight on his left foot as he attempted to get up. He hobbled to the Sabres bench and fell to his knees attempting to get through the gate.
