Navy's Blue Angels coming for Hawaii show

Advertiser Staff and News Reports

The Navy's Blue Angels flight demonstration team will be performing Sept. 25 and 26 at the Marine Corps Base Hawai'i "Kane'ohe Bay Air Show," officials said Wednesday.

The air show is free and open to the public and will include performers, military and civilian static displays, and other activities.

The Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron is among the most popular aviation acts in the world, Marine Corps officials said. Some 15 million people saw the show last season.

Since the Blue Angels were formed in 1946, they have performed for more than 400 million people.

The Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornets can hit speeds of 1,200 mph. Blue Angels pilots hold their Hornets in formations just feet apart while performing complex maneuvers.

Their support aircraft, a Marine Corps C-130, will also be at the show. Known as "Fat Albert," it carries 25,000 pounds of cargo, 45,000 pounds of fuel, and transports the squadron's support and maintenance crew to each show site.

The Blue Angels' mission is to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting and to represent the naval services to the United States civilian community, its elected leadership and foreign nations.

The gates are tentatively set to open to the public at 9 a.m. on both days of the show.
