Royal Kona Resort workers authorize strike

Advertiser Staff

Unionized workers at the Royal Kona Resort voted Thursday to authorize their union to call a strike, if necessary.

Seventy-six percent of the workers who participated voted in favor of the strike authorization.

The workers are represented by Unite Here Local 5.

About 145 workers at the resort are represented by the union.

Issues include health benefits and working conditions, a news release from the union said. The union said the company canceled the union contract in January 2009.
