Hungry Ear offers Record Store Day deals on Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Hungry Ear Records in Kailua will participate in Record Store Day, a celebration of the independent record store, on Saturday.

This year's Record Store Day, in its third year, is celebrated worldwide. The event sees the release of dozens of exclusive titles on both vinyl and compact disc — available only through participating stores — by varied artists including Jeff Beck, Flaming Lips, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones and Sonic Youth.

Hungry Ear will also have all used record albums and compact discs on sale for at least 20 percent off. Used classical and opera CDs will be 50 percent off. There will be hundreds of selected records and CDs on sale for $1 each.

Also, Victory Records recording artists Emmure, who will be playing a concert in Honolulu Saturday evening, are expected to stop by to greet fans and sign autographs; exact time to be announced.

Hungry Ear Records, at 418 Kuulei Road in Kailua, originally opened in 1980 by Luke Yamashiro and Dennis Chun. Former employees and old-time Windward residents Ward Yamashita and Dennie Chong returned to run the store in 2008.
