The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory yesterday posted video on its Web site of the lava surface deep within the Halemaumau vent.

The observatory said the images were captured with a thermal camera that can see through the thick fumes.

The lava surface is about 230 feet wide and about 660 feet below the cavity rim.
