Kauai still under flash-flood watch

Advertiser Staff

Rain has eased statewide, but Kauai remains under a flash-flood watch.

The bridge over the Hanalei River was closed earlier today because of flooding on Kuhio Road, but one lane has since been reopened.

The state Department of Education says Hanalei School will be closed today.

The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.

Instruments recorded 5.99 inches of rain fell on Mount Waialeale during the 24-hour period ending at 5 this morning.

The National Weather Service says moderate to locally heavy showers remain possible statewide.

Trade winds are expected to return today and the forecast calls for partly sunny conditions with numerous showers in the morning and scattered showers in the afternoon.

Highs will be 78 to 83 degrees and trades will be 15 to 20 mph.
