Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have taken to Twitter to announce their breakup.

The two actors each tweeted yesterday that they have ended their relationship after five years. Publicists for Carrey and McCarthy confirmed the split.

Carrey said on the social networking Web site that he wished McCarthy "the very best!"

McCarthy tweeted that she "will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart."

ACTING PATRIARCH PLEADS FOR GRANDSON

Kirk Douglas has asked a judge to spare his drug-dealer grandson a harsh prison sentence, saying he hopes to see him turn around his life "before I die."

The film legend made the appeal in one of several letters of support filed Friday in federal court in Manhattan on behalf of Cameron Douglas.

Other letters were penned by his celebrity stepmother, Catherine Zeta-Jones, NBA executive Pat Riley and longtime friends who described their despair over watching him waste his talent as a budding actor.

The 31-year-old son of Academy Award winner Michael Douglas pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges he dealt methamphetamine.

O.J.'S DUDS DESTINED FOR NEWSEUM

The tan Armani suit, white shirt and gold tie that O.J. Simpson wore on the day he was acquitted of murder have been acquired by the Newseum in Washington, D.C., for a display exhibit on the "trial of the century," the curator of the museum of news said yesterday.

Mike Gilbert, Simpson's former manager, said he will deliver the ensemble to the Newseum next week.

Simpson was acquitted on Oct. 3, 1995, of killing ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman, after a televised trial viewed by millions on live TV.

LATE ACTOR 'DOCTOR SHOPPED' FOR PILLS

Actor Corey Haim employed "doctor shopping" to obtain 553 prescription pills in the two months before his death, California Attorney General Jerry Brown said yesterday.

Haim obtained the meds, which included Valium, Vicodin, Xanax and Soma, through seven different doctors and seven pharmacies, Brown said, and he used an alias on at least one occasion. Brown said it did not appear the doctors knew Haim was obtaining prescriptions through multiple sources.

Haim, 38, died March 10 after collapsing in his mother's apartment.

JON GOSSELIN SEES AN OPPORTUNITY

Jon Gosselin plans to sue ex-wife Kate for primary custody of their eight children because her appearances on "Dancing With the Stars" have turned her into an absentee mom, a lawyer for the former reality show dad said yesterday. Jon Gosselin's new lawyer, Anthony List, said he plans to file papers in Pennsylvania this week to reopen their divorce settlement.
