Fire destroys Mākaha home; 2-story structure collapses

Advertiser Staff

A fire destroyed a two-story house in Makaha last night, but there were no reports of injuries.

The fire was reported at 8:56 p.m. at 84-429 Jade St. The first firefighters at the scene said the home was engulfed in flames, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Fire Department spokesman. Seelig said the home collapsed as firefighters fought to put out the blaze, which was brought under control at 10:06 p.m.

Seelig said the home was not occupied and that the fire was confined to that structure. The fire did an estimated $400,000 in damage, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
