Mail scam asks for $25,000 for 'millions' in winnings

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police are warning the public about a mail scam.

An 82-year-old Hilo man reported receiving a letter from an address in France claiming the recipient had won millions of dollars. The letter says the winnings will be deposited in the recipient's bank account and asks for $25,000 in legal fees so an attorney can assist with the transaction.

Police urge the public to be suspicious of unusual requests for money.
