Advertiser Staff

A 31-year-old Waipahu man was arrested on suspicion of more than a dozen criminal offenses after police reported finding him passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle after crashing into a gate on Nalanui Street in Liliha early yesterday morning.

Police officers dispatched about 4 a.m. to check on a report of a collision found the man in the driver's seat. The engine was running and the transmission was set in reverse.

Police said that as the man was being removed, they spotted a semi-automatic pistol on the floor in plain view in front of the passenger seat. The pistol was found to have a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 9mm cartridges.

Searches of the car and driver also turned up what appeared to be drugs, drug paraphernalia and credit or identification cards belonging to others, police said.

Among other things, the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, failure to properly store a firearm, second-degree theft, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, possession of a high-capacity gun magazine, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and unauthorized control of confidential personal information.
