HOUSTON — Outfielder Adam Lind and the Toronto Blue Jays agreed yesterday to an $18 million, four-year contract that includes three additional club option years.

The 26-year-old Lind hit .305 last year with 35 home runs and 114 RBIs. He was happy to know he'd be with the team long term and could make Toronto his second home.

"It will mean a lot for my parents, for my future kids, just so they can do what they want and they can go to the schools that they want and they can breathe for the rest of their lives," Lind said yesterday.

Lind gets a $600,000 signing bonus, $400,000 this year, and $5 million in each of the following three seasons. Toronto holds a $7 million option for 2014 with a $2 million buyout.

The deal also includes a $7.5 million club option for 2015 with a $1 million buyout, and an $8 million club option for 2016 with a $500,000 buyout.

Angels: Los Angeles placed left-hander Scott Kazmir and reserve outfielder Reggie Willits on the 15-day disabled list with strained right hamstrings. Manager Mike Scioscia says Kazmir will miss at least one turn in the rotation.

Athletics: Oakland leadoff hitter Coco Crisp will begin the season on the disabled list after fracturing his left pinkie finger in Friday's exhibition game against San Francisco. Crisp was injured while making a headfirst dive while trying to steal second base.

Diamondbacks: Utility infielder Rusty Ryal beat out Ryan Roberts for the final spot on Arizona's opening day roster. Ryal hit .283 this spring, while Roberts struggled to a .185 average that included the deciding two-run homer in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.

Nationals: Washington manager Jim Riggleman announced yesterday that right-hander Garrett Mock will be the No. 5 starter, getting the nod over lefty Scott Olsen, who was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Rockies: Colorado placed pitchers Jeff Francis (left shoulder tendinitis), Huston Street (right shoulder stiffness), Taylor Buchholz (elbow surgery) and Greg Reynolds (right elbow contusion) on the 15-day disabled list.

Royals: Kansas City placed right-hander Gil Meche (right shoulder stiffness) and infielders Alex Gordon (broken right thumb) and Josh Fields (hip) on the disabled list and assigned seven players to its minor league camp, leaving the Royals one over the 25-man limit.
