Health Department confirms that Peppa’s was cleared to reopen

The state Health Department confirmed yesterday that it had reinstated the food permit for Peppa's Korean BBQ.

The restaurant reopened Friday after being shut down the day before after health inspectors determined that four cases of E. coli were connected to the eatery.

The owners of Peppa's, at 1240 S. King St. in Honolulu, had agreed to the shutdown, the department said.

Under the supervision of the department's Sanitation Branch, Peppa's completed the required corrective actions and was cleared to reopen early Friday, the Health Department said.

Those actions included disinfecting food contact surfaces, walls and floors; discarding food that was not in sealed containers or containers that could be disinfected; providing accurate thermometers and assuring proper food temperatures; ensuring adequate hand washing facilities and practices, and completing documented food safety training.

The restaurant manager will complete the DOH's Food Certification Workshop on Monday and Tuesday, the Health Department said.
