Driver killed in Tuesday crash was Katsuto Saiki, 83
Police have identified the victim of a fatal car crash on Maui as Katsuto Saiki, 83.
According to a police report: Saiki was driving a 1991 Nissan sedan south on Kahului Beach Road at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and turned left toward the Kahului boat ramp. He collided with a 2001 Toyota Tacoma that was traveling north on Kahului Beach Road.
Saiki was pronounced dead at Maui Memorial Medical Center. An autopsy is scheduled. The driver of the Toyota truck was not seriously injured.
This is Maui's 12th traffic fatality, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
