Ward Centers has scheduled its "Festival of Giving" annual weekend fundraiser for Nov. 6 to 8.

As part of the event, shoppers can purchase a $10 ticket that gives them discounts and special offers from more than 100 participating shops and restaurants throughout Ward Centers.

Nonprofit groups participating in the event are selling tickets, and the organizations will keep 100 percent of their ticket proceeds. Last year's event raised a record $96,830 for 75 nonprofit groups.

CLINT EASTWOOD MOVIE TO FILM IN HAWAI'I

Hawai'i is one of several locations that will be featured in Clint Eastwood's latest film "Hereafter," according to the Guardian newspaper's Web site.

Shooting for the movie began last week in France, and will later move to locations in London and Hawai'i, the British newspaper reported.

The movie is described as a "supernatural thriller" starring Matt Damon as a reluctant psychic, one of three characters in the movie who follow parallel paths that intersect, the Guardian reported. The other characters are a French TV journalist, played by Cecile de France, who survives the Asian tsunami of 2004, and a drug-addicted single English mother played by Lyndsey Marshall.

AWARDS TO HONOR BEST IN GRAPHIC DESIGN

Hawai'i's commercial printing industry will hold its Hawaii's 5-O Design Competition and Award Show next week.

The event, which is held every other year, is considered to be the most prestigious graphic design awards competition in Hawai'i. This year's event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6 at Pauahi Tower's Mezzanine.

Hawaii's 5-O was created by the Honolulu chapter of the AIGA, the professional association for design, as a joint effort with Hawaii Printers, a local organization promoting printing in the state. The top 50 designs are selected from entries of printed annual reports, stationery, books, brochures, catalogs, newsletters, environmental graphics, Web sites and more.
