Man at center of Honolulu police shooting faces multiple charges

Advertiser Staff

A 29-year-old man, shot by a police officer Sunday near Kapiolani Boulevard and Cooke Street, was charged this morning with multiple offenses stemming from the incident.

Gerald F. Galon, who gave no local address, was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An officer fired three times at Galon after he attempted to drive away with a police sergeant, 46, hanging from the car and being dragged a short distance, police said.

The case began about 11:20 a.m. Sunday after an anonymous caller reported a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car that still had its motor running.

The unoccupied car was found abandoned in Kalihi and Galon was arrested about an hour later after seeking treatment for suspicious injuries at Pali Momi hospital.
