Today the red carpet will be rolled out for the Hawai'i Pet Film Festival and Holiday Gift Show. From 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall will be ablaze with pet starlets and the pupparazzi.

The event created by Hawaii Pet magazine and PacificNetwork.tv will showcase the best and brightest pet films selected from 60 submissions to the contest, which was announced this fall. The films, which all cast pets as stars, are grouped into nine categories,

including drama, comedy and animation. There'll be a prize in each category and an overall grand prize of $500.

Fun events of the day include a movie-themed pet costume contest, a pet fashion show, the film awards, holiday pet gifts, pet vendors and demonstrations. You'll be able to view the winning films and photos throughout the day.

Local vendors, such as 55 Pawsh Place, the Pet Spot, Bark Avenue and Planet U2 will display their holiday items. There will be plenty of gift ideas for your feathered and furry friends.

The Hawaiian Humane Society's booth will feature Pictures With Santa Paws from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: For $25, you and your pet can take photos with Santa and Mrs. Paws. You get to keep the disc of four poses to print your own holiday photos. At the same time, pick up "Pets In Paradise" calendars and get information on the Humane Society's many services.

Admission is free. Best of all, you can bring your pets to enjoy the day. Don't forget to dress them up and enter them in the costume contest.
