Soccer: Kai's team, Sky Blue FC, suspends its coach

WASHINGTON — Ian Sawyers has been indefinitely suspended as head coach and general manager of the New York-New Jersey franchise in the Women's Professional Soccer league by team owners.
Thomas Hofstetter, chief executive officer and president of Sky Blue Soccer — the parent organization of the Sky Blue FC team — announced the suspension today in a statement released hours before the team's game against the Washington Freedom.
"Differences have arisen between Ian and the ownership of the organization," Hofstetter said. "We are working through this matter as professionally as possible and will have further information available sometime next week."
Assistant coach Kelly Lindsey was named interim head coach, but the release did not say who would handle Sawyers' duties as GM.
Sky Blue's roster includes Olympian Natasha Kai, a Kahuku High and University of Hawai‘i alum.
