About 500 people lined up outside Sports Authority in Waikele this morning to take advantage of the Honolulu Marathon's early $30 registration.
It was the largest advance crowd ever for the annual discounted sign-up, according to Honolulu Marathon Association spokesperson Pat Bigold. By noon, the line still extended past nearby Old Navy. By 3 p.m., 1,005 runners had submitted entries at the store.
The normal registration fee for local runners is $85 ($20 less than last year) from June to Oct. 30, with step increases until race week.
Early registration continues until 6 p.m. today, and resumes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow.
Runners may also submit early registration forms by mail or fax until May 31.
