RENO, Nev. — Nevada’s basketball team has landed two more recruits, a pair of big guards including a transfer from Indiana University, Wolf Pack coach David Carter announced on Thursday.
Malik Story, 6-foot-5, 222 lbs., averaged 5.9 points and 2.2 rebounds playing for the Big Ten’s Hoosiers last season.
Originally from Los Angeles, Story helped lead Artesia High School to a pair of state titles, averaging 14.7 points per game as a junior before he graduated in 2008 from Ribet Academy in Los Angeles. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2009-10 season as a redshirt.
“Malik is a strong, physical guard who gained a lot of experience at Indiana last year. After sitting out next year, he will really be able to contribute to our program and will be a very good player at Nevada,” said Carter, a longtime former Nevada assistant who was named head coach in April when Mark Fox took the top job at Georgia.
Jerry Evans Jr., 6-foot-7, 180 lbs., averaged 15.3 points and 7.4 rebounds last year while at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, Calif. He also shot 54.6 percent from the field while helping his team to a 26-7 record. He’ll be eligible to join the Wolf Pack in the fall.
“Jerry is a very talented and versatile guard. He really fits the way we want to play at Nevada and should be able to help us,” Carter said.
