'Bows advance in water polo

Leonie Van Der Molen scored all four of her goals in the second half to lift Hawai'i to an 11-7 victory over Loyola Marymount in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship women's water polo tournament at College Park, Md.
The Rainbow Wahine, seeded fourth, face top-seeded Southern California in the semifinals today at 10 a.m. Hawai'i time.
The Rainbow Wahine outscored the Lions 3-1 in the second quarter to break a 3-all tie and take a 6-4 halftime lead.
Van Der Molen scored two goals in the third period as UH took an 8-7 lead.
Lisa van Raalte scored to give UH a 9-7 lead with six minutes left, then Van Der Molen scored her final two goals to seal the victory.
"I thought we played very well tonight, very aggressive," UH coach Michel Roy said. "I'm proud of how we executed on offense, we passed well, we made the extra pass and it paid off in the second half with those five goals."
Dagmar Genee scored two goals and Carmen Eggens, Kelly Mason, Ryan Hanson-Swaner and Saara Majuri also scored for the Rainbow Wahine. UH goalie Serena Bredin had eight saves.
"In the second half, we scored some goals and started to get some momentum," Van Der Molen said. "Everything came together."
UH is making its third appearance in the NCAA Championship. In 2005 and 2006, the Rainbow Wahine also won in the quarterfinals of the eight-team tournament before losing in the semifinals.
USC routed Cal Lutheran 22-2 yesterday. In the other quarterfinal matches, UCLA defeated Michigan, 13-6, while Stanford crushed Marist 21-5.
