Pearl City, Kauai top state baseball seeds

Pearl City and Kaua'i received the top seeds for this week's Wally Yonamine Foundation/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Baseball State Championships.

Pearl City (14-0), the O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion, is seeded first in Division I, followed by Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion 'Iolani (18-4), Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Hilo (13-1) and Maui Interscholastic League champion Kamehameha-Maui (11-4). The top four seeds received first-round byes.

First-round action begins on Wednesday at Les Murakami Stadium. Five-time defending state champion Punahou (11-8) plays Campbell (9-6), with the winner advancing to face Pearl City.

The championship game is Saturday at 7 p.m.

In Division II, Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion Kaua'i (9-3), the defending state champion, is the top seed, followed by MIL winner St. Anthony (9-1), OIA champion Waipahu (11-1) and BIIF champion Hawai'i Prep (8-5). The top four seeds received first-round byes.

First-round action begins on Wednesday at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu. All games will be played there except for the championship game, scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
