Tennis: Defending champion Gonzalez pulls out of BMW Open

MUNICH — Defending champion Fernando Gonzalez has pulled out of the BMW Open because of an ankle injury.
The Chilean lost to top-ranked Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the Rome Masters on Saturday and flew to Munich on Sunday to announce his withdrawal from the $450,000 clay-court tournament.
Marin Cilic of Croatia, ranked No. 15, is now the highest ranked player in the tournament. Lleyton Hewitt of Australia of received a wild card.
