Chris Pascual threw a five-hitter on Saturday, lifting the Kamehameha baseball team to a 4-1 win over Punahou in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game.
Pascual, a senior left-hander, gave up one run in the second inning and struck out seven at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Makana Ramie had two hits as the Warriors improved to 5-1. The Buffanblu, winners of the last five state titles, fell to 3-3.
GOVERNORS PITCHER HAD HARD LUCK IN DOUBLEHEADER
Also on Saturday, Farrington softball pitcher Felicia Tui ran into a bit of hard luck. She struck out 17 in two complete games against Kaimuki, but the Governors dropped both games to the Bulldogs in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red East doubleheader.
Tui, a senior right-hander, allowed just two hits in a 3-1 loss to Kaimuki in the first game. In the second game, Tui allowed just four hits in a 5-3 loss. The Governors, last year's OIA White champions, were hurt by nine errors in the two games.
WAIAKEA GOLFER MIZUSAWA A DOUBLE WINNER LAST WEEK
Waiakea golfer Summer Mizusawa won both Big Island Interscholastic Federation tournaments last week. On Monday, she shot a 69 for a 10-stroke win over teammate Britney Yada at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. Mizusawa won again Thursday at Hilo Municipal, shooting a 73 for a six-stroke win over teammate Nani Yanagi. The Warriors topped the team standings in both tournaments.
Mizusawa has won three tournaments this season.
BIIF play resumes on April 6 at Waikoloa.
HPA'S NAKOA STILL 4 FOR 4 IN BIIF TRACK AND FIELD
Hawai'i Prep's Ku'uipo Nakoa continued her strong quadruple-duty in BIIF track and field.
Nakoa, a junior, won the girls long jump (16 feet-9 1/2), triple jump (35-5 1/4), 100-meter dash (12.86 seconds) and 200 dash (26.57) on Saturday in a league meet at Kea'au. Hawai'i Prep finished third in the team standings with 67 points. Kamehameha-Hawai'i won with 109.
Nakoa also won the same four events in a BIIF meet March 21 at Konawaena and in the league opener March 14 at Kamehameha-Hawai'i.
Kamehameha-Hawai'i hosts another meet this Saturday at 9 a.m.
