Ricketts' no-hitter helps UH top LaTech
Advertiser Staff
Freshman Stephanie Ricketts pitched her first career no-hitter as Hawai'i beat Louisiana Tech, 3-0, yesterday in the opener of a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Ruston, La.
Ricketts faced just 22 batters, with a leadoff walk in the fifth preventing her from a perfect game. She induced 16 groundouts and four popups as LaTech could not hit a ball to the outfield.
The Rainbow Wahine (12-17, 1-1) scored all three runs in the second inning. Richie-Anne Titcomb and Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit RBI singles, and Tanisha Milca drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the second game, Meghan Krieg struck out a career-high 14 as the Bulldogs (14-13, 1-1) earned a split with an 8-1 victory.
Julie Franklin and Milca hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth for UH's only run.
