Iditarod: 11 mushers still on Iditarod trail

Associated Press

NOME, Alaska — There's still 11 mushers struggling for the Iditarod finish line in Nome.

As of Sunday morning, 42 mushers had reached Nome, four days after Lance Mackey won his third straight Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race title.

Fourteen mushers have either scratched or been withdrawn from the 1,100-mile sled dog race.

The latest is David Sawatzky of Healy, who scratched Saturday between Safety and Nome. Race officials say the 56-year-old musher quit after he had been leading his team, or walking in front of them, for a number of miles.
