Rain's lawyer counters contract accusations

Associated Press

An attorney for Korean pop star Rain today countered accusations of breach of contract in opening arguments of a federal civil trial over his canceled Hawaii concert.

Attorney Jon Crocker said Rain and Seoul-based JYP Entertainment Co. wanted to put on the June 2007 show in Honolulu. But he said the stage hadn't been completed and there was a legal challenge to use of the name Rain in the U.S.

The attorney for plaintiff Click Entertainment, Eric Seitz, said the company invested more than $1 million for the rights and for staging of the stadium event for which tickets went for up to $300 each.

Seitz accused Rain and his producer of "painful and dishonest business practices."

Rain himself is expected to testify before the eight-member jury next week.
