Low tide yesterday morning left much of the reef off Ala Moana Beach Park exposed, leaving surfers a long walk to the waves. One lifeguard said it was the lowest he'd seen low tide in quite a while.

An especially low low tide made for a stunning image yesterday morning ... and a very long walk over exposed reef for surfers making their way to the waves off Ala Moana Beach Park.

The lowest low tides of the month have occurred the last three days.
At 8:41 yesterday morning, it was minus 0.40 feet off Waikiki.
Advertiser photographer Gregory Yamamoto captured the dramatic sight when he dropped his daughter off at the city’s Junior Lifeguard summer program.
Lifeguards also were taking notice. One lifeguard told Yamamoto he hadn’t seen the tide so low for quite a while.
