The Building Industry Association of Hawaii is seeking more entries for its annual Parade of Homes, a showcase of what residential developers are building around the state.

The deadline for entries is June 19. The free public event, in its 53rd year, will be held Oct. 9-11 and 16-18.

Developers and contractors may enter single-family and multifamily homes, town homes, high-rises, units in vacation ownership projects and condominium conversions.

Though there are awards issued by the trade association to developers for categories of work, the event is largely a marketing tool. This year's Parade of Homes theme is "It's the Right Time to Buy."

Developers that have already entered the 2009 BIA Parade of Homes include D.R. Horton's Schuler Division, Gentry Homes Ltd., Haseko Homes Inc. and Stanford Carr Development LLC.

For more information and to obtain an entry form, contact Clarice Watanabe at 847-4666, ext. 200, or e-mail ckw@biahawaii.org. General information is also at www.biahawaii.org.

ISLE PLANT, FLOWER VALUES FALL 9%

The value of Hawai'i's floriculture and nursery products fell to $98.6 million in 2008, a 9 percent decline from 2007's record-setting performance, according to a report from the local office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Growers said a number of factors led to the decline, including the generally sluggish economy, crop losses to volcanic emissions, and other adverse weather conditions. Despite the decline, The NASS said "the industry still remains a major contributor to Hawai'i's diversified agriculture."

The $108.7 million produced by the industry in 2007 was a record for the industry, which has generated more than $95 million a year in each of the past five years.

Orchids, the largest single category, were valued at $19.1 million in 2008, an 11 percent decline from 2007. Cut flowers were valued at $10 million, down 18 percent from 2007.

GO! PROMOTION FEATURES $3 TICKETS

Go! airlines said it will sell 1,000 interisland tickets for $3 each way as part of a promotion to mark the carrier's third year in Hawai'i.

The fare is valid for travel between today and June 30 and tickets must be purchased by Thursday. Go! is also awarding three passengers on each Tuesday go! flight with a certificate redeemable for a free round trip.

Seats are limited and fares may not be available on all flights. The fare is available online only and doesn't include taxes and fees.

Go!, a division of Arizona-based Mesa Air Group, launched interisland service June 9, 2006.
