The flickering light of the projectors at Restaurant Row 9 Theaters, are being dimmed permanently on Aug.9.

Oregon-based Hollywood Theaters, which operates the multiplex in Waterfront Plaza, is accepting a buyout from its lease with landlord Pacific Office Properties. The theater’s 40 employees were informed of the closing yesterday.
The 22,000-square-foot theater has been at Waterfront since 1994 and its original lease wasn’t due to expire until 2034. However, in 2007, Hollywood Theaters President Scott Wallace entered into an agreement with Pacific Office Properties that allowed Pacific to end the contract in exchange for a cash payment.
The “dollar” theatre in April raised its admission to $1.25 for a shows Monday through Thursday and for shows before 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission for evening shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was raised to $1.50.
The last dollar theatre in the Islands is Kress Cinemas in Hilo, also owned by Hollywood Theaters.
