Big Island roadwork to shut some lanes

Advertiser Staff

Road maintenance will be conducted in Hilo, Waimea and Kona next week. Drivers should be alerted that some roads will be closed.

Isemoto Contracting Co. will resurface the shoulders along the makai side of Komohana Street from Kawailani to Puainako streets, including Kilaha, from June 8 to June 12. One-lane closures will change as the road crew resurfaces Komohana in the Puna-to-Hamakua direction between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
A sewer project has started on Kawili Street by William C. Loeffler Construction Inc. Traffic delays should be expected during the summer at the Kawili intersections with Kino'ole, Kilauea and Kapi'olani streets. The sewer project is part of the improvements for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo and is scheduled for completion in March 2010.
No roadwork will be done on Kamehameha Day, June 11, which is a state and county holiday. Speed limit is 20 mph in the construction zones.
George Oye Inc. is renovating the sidewalk and curb for Waimea Center on Mamalahoa Highway for a whole week, beginning June 8 at 8:30 a.m. The lane in the Kona direction will be closed during this time and will reopen on June 11 and close again on June 12. Shoppers should enter and exit Waimea Center at the traffic signal. From June 15 to June 19, the Kona-bound lane will be closed again, but only between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Mamalahoa Bypass in Kona is closed June 11 and it will reopen to south-bound travel from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on June 12.
