In an effort to meet the USGA matching funds grant, a silent auction will be held Saturday at the banyan tree next to the service station in Hawi on the Big Island, from 9 a.m. to noon. Money raised will benefit Kamehameha Park Junior Golf Program.

Auction items include two tickets for next year's U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, golf packages at Mauna Kea, Princeville and Waikoloa Resort, a koa rocking chair and table, a Zip Line Adventure tour for two, gift certificates from KTA, Big Island Candies, Cafe Pesto and local restaurants, stores and hotels. All items are released through North Kohala Community Resource Center and donations are tax-deductible.

The Kamehameha Park program provides free golf for juniors, including range time, equipment and instruction. Participants are enrolled in the USGA "Kids on Course" program and become USGA members.

The mission of Kamehameha Park Golf is to provide the children of North Hawai'i an opportunity to learn and play golf. The six golf holes were designed and built by PGA member John Mauro, with help from four high school students and members of the community. Funding was provided by the USGA and PGA in the form of construction and start-up grants.

For more information, contact Mauro (808-345-4393 or jsmwai@aol.com).
